Volunteer Opportunities

ProsperityME relies on a network of local financial and business expert volunteers to support our clients.  Join us! You will feel an amazing sense of satisfaction helping our new Mainers along the road to their American Dream.

We have the following volunteer opportunities available:

Volunteer Housing Coaches:

A Volunteer Housing Coach (VHC) is to be a support person in housing matters, particularly regarding the tenant/client's actual housing. The VHC will provide ongoing support and have a good understanding of the SIT and ProsperityME programs and community resources. A VHC will be patient, unflappable, with a good sense of appropriate boundaries and eager to meet those from a different culture on equal terms of respect and admiration. The idea is not to take over housing issues, but to resolve any conflicts mutually in a way that empowers the tenant to understand the process and be able to handle it another time. In general, the VHC is a friend, keeping in regular contact to check-in and be a support to a new immigrant Mainer coming to grips with a different housing culture.

Scholarship Mentors:

A Scholarship Mentor will take a ProsperityME PROSPER Scholarship student under their wing. The goal is help students adjust to college life in America and to prepare for a career in their field of study. Mentors will be matched with compatible students majoring in the mentor’s professional field. The mentor will act as a “big brother or sister” figure, friend, and guide. Mentors may help students select courses, provide general advice, and help students develop a resume and professional network that will position the student to be hired by a Maine employer upon graduation.
