MIPN - The Maine Immigrants Prosperity Network
MIPN was created by ProsperityME to bring together forward-thinking business leaders who are committed to improving access to financial services for Immigrants. It was designed to promote the mission of ProsperityME to assist immigrants to move from financial literacy to financial stability, and onto financial prosperity. The MIPN is composed of private sector leaders from financial institutions, insurance companies, accounting organizations, and wealth management firms.
How does the MIPN Implement its mission?
-
Providing Educational opportunities for immigrants in all aspects of financial management in their daily lives, including budgeting, banking, credit building, insurance, and wealth accumulation.
-
Increasing access for immigrants to all aspects of the financial services sector by supporting and working in partnership with ProsperityME.
-
Deepening the understanding of the private sector about the financial service barriers and challenges facing immigrants in successfully accessing the financial services they need.
-
Offering tools and techniques to the financial sector members of MIPN that are designed to increase access for immigrants and assist these businesses to implement cultural, educational, and procedural updates to better serve this customer segment.
What has the MIPN accomplished in its first 2 years:
-
With help from ProsperityME staff, identified key barriers many immigrants face when trying to access safe, affordable financial services.
-
MIPN members then prioritized which industries would benefit from a resource guide.
-
Selected as its project for 2021/22 the development of a Banking and Credit Union Toolkit to help the private sector financial institutions better serve the needs of the immigrant communities. This “Banking Toolkit” is now completed and will be launched in early 2023.
-
Completed Initial research and drafting for the 2nd Toolkit focused upon Health Insurance.
-
Completed initial research and drafting of the 3rd Toolkit which will focus upon auto, life, homeowner/rental, and business insurance for immigrants.
The Toolkits will be free and readily available on the Prosperity ME website for use by any organization. Financial sector businesses and non-profits will be able to freely access the Toolkits through various links to the ProsperityME’s website.
