Brief Job Summary

The Development Director will carry out ProsperityME’s mission by managing all aspects of annual funds and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the organizations fundraising initiatives including corporate development, major gifts, annual fund, grants, and special events. The Director works closely with the Executive Director and the Marketing and Development Committee. This is a full-time exempt position which requires good communication with team and Board members.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Bring an experienced, thoughtful, and strategic perspective to building and nurturing relationships to secure a cadre of dedicated, long-term supporters to the organization.

  • Take a leadership role in overseeing major gift outreach and managing the annual fund.

  • Plan, manage and implement all Fundraising aspects of the Annual Fund including:

  • Planning and leading the execution of major fundraising campaigns, including the Annual Appeal.

  • In conjunction with the Deputy Director and Executive Director, and the Board and Marketing & Development Committee manage the organizational budget by setting and achieving fundraising goals.

  • Identify prospective donors through networking activities and donor database searches.

  • Create and implement a comprehensive donor stewardship and cultivation plan for all donor levels by providing timely gift acknowledgement and implementing stewardship strategies along industry best practices.

  • Solicit major gifts from corporate, foundation and individual private donors through one-on-one meetings. Provide individualized, “high-touch” stewardship where needed.

  • Write and manage all major grant proposals for the organization and provide accurate and timely project reporting to funders where required.

  • Prepare monthly financial reports for the Executive Director, detailing all fundraising activities and development project status.

  • Identify and create needed fundraising support materials for the fundraising team.

  • Recruit and train volunteers to assist with fundraising initiatives.


Skills and Education Required:

  • · 10 years of relevant experience in the nonprofit sector, development preferred.

  • Three years of personnel management experience.

  • Bachelors or advanced degree (MBA/MPA) strongly preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Advanced knowledge of fund development theories, principles, and procedures.

  • Experience applying for federal grants and working with national funders.

  • Proven track record of fundraising success.

  • Essential knowledge of budgeting and accounting principles.

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills. Comfort with presentations and public speaking.

  • Demonstrated understanding of successful volunteer management.

  • High degree of technological literacy. Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite, video conferencing software, Box.com, and Apple OS required.

  • Additional Skills and conditions:

  • Familiarity with Donor management software: Kindful preferred.

  • Strong executive function. Ability to plan, organize and efficiently execute projects within deadlines.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work comfortably with a diverse constituency of staff and volunteers.

  • Comfortable working independently and within the limits of authority to reach conclusions.

  • Investment in continuing education within the nonprofit sector to increase skills.

  • Strong logical reasoning and attention to detail.

  • Current drivers’ license and willingness to travel statewide to meetings and events as required.

  • Willingness to undergo a criminal background check.
