Brief Job Summary

The Development Manager supports the development goals of ProsperityME by implementing an annual marketing plan and coordinating all major events. The position reports to the director of development and works closely with the executive team including the executive director, deputy director, director of programs, and finance manager.

The Development Manager supports the development goals of ProsperityMe by implementing an annual marketing plan and coordinating all major events. The position reports to the director of development and works closely with the executive team including the executive director, deputy director, director of programs, and finance manager. 

 

This position develops a marketing strategy and produces written communication products including website updates, grant applications, and research for donor cultivation. Key competencies include the ability to communicate effectively in writing, excellent interpersonal skills to work across departments, high level of attention to detail and deadlines, project management follow-through, and ability to implement multiple projects at the same time.


Duties and responsibilities:

 

Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop and implement annual marketing plan including target audience, objectives, activities, and timetable of measurable goals in coordination with the Director of Development.

  • Establish a communications calendar in tandem with quarterly and monthly goals for the department.

  • Develop annual goals for your position in coordination with senior staff.

  • Track progress on stated goals and recommend process improvements as needed.

 

Communications and Marketing:

  • Manage website updates and social media accounts in conjunction with marketing plan.

  • Manage annual and monthly calendar of email updates through MailChimp and Bloomerang CRM.

  • Develop materials such as brochures, client testimonials, case studies, and presentations.

  • Analyze effectiveness of marketing efforts and propose improvements.

  • Review communications listservs to ensure that donor and client contacts are up to date.

  • Design graphics and produce images for online use with tools such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop.

 

Project Management:

  • Manage multiple projects including grant calendar of opportunities, vendor contracts, and ensure contacts are updated in the donor database and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools.

  • Manage annual cycle of grants from foundations, tracking opportunities in Instrumentl and Bloomerang.

  • Manage annual block party celebration and donor appreciation events, including vendor contracts and day-of activities, and post-event follow-up.

  • Manage and coordinate volunteers for annual Block Party and other public events.

  • Recruit interns and establish connections with vendors for special projects.

 

Grant Management:

·       Track annual calendar of funding opportunities to meet application and reporting deadlines.

·       Conduct research on grant and funding opportunities from corporations, foundations, and individuals.

·       Support the Director of Development with writing grant proposals and applications for funding.

·       Coordinate with the Deputy Director and Finance Manager on budgets for grant proposals.

·       Support the Director of Programs with final reports to donors.

·       Write the annual report for the organization, coordinating input across departments.

·       Support donor appreciation efforts including thank you calls, cards, email campaigns, and events.

 

Administrative and Organizational Tasks:

  • Provide administrative support to the Director of Development with materials for board and committee meetings, group Outlook calendar invites and email reminders, donor acknowledgement letters, and maintenance of key files and folders in Box.

  • Recommend networking events where the organization should be represented and attend meetings.

  • Coordinate committee meetings for the Development and Marketing Committee, Events Subcommittee, and donor networks including the Maine Immigrant Prosperity Network (MIPN).

  • Prepare meeting agendas, take notes on meeting discussions, analyze and report key takeaways.

 

Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Affairs, or related degree with commensurate experience.

  • 5-7 years of professional experience in a communications, development, fundraising, or public relations management role.

  • Project management skills for managing donors, grants, and events.

  • Familiarity with nonprofit organizations and/or immigrant and refugee organizations.

  • Desired experience working with diverse clients and constituents, exposure to international community.

  •  

Skills Needed:

  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly for diverse audiences and in various formats (web, social media, grant writing, program plans).

  • High level of attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Cross-cultural communication skills.

  • Professionalism in communication with internal and external audiences.

  • Team player with an ability to collaborate effectively with staff from other departments.

  • Technical acumen with Microsoft Office suite, Adobe products, Web editing tools, Zoom and Teams meetings, donor Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, and email listserv tools.

  • Valid Driver’s License to travel to meetings as needed.

  • Ability and willingness to submit to a criminal background check.

  • Flexibility to carry out other tasks as assigned or needed.

  • Personal commitment to excellence.

 

The position involves close communication with senior staff and stakeholders including board members and donors. It requires working within an office setting, and periodic travel in southern Maine. It requires occasional transporting, lifting, and carrying meeting and event materials. Office hours are between 9:00am and 5:00pm, with events and meetings occurring during evening hours on occasion.

 

Salary & Benefits: This is a full-time non-exempt position and salary is negotiable depending on qualifications. Generous benefit package includes a 401K plan, paid vacation, sick time, holidays, and employer-paid health insurance and dental.
