
Housing Case Manager Job Description
Founded in 2008, ProsperityME is a growing 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Portland, Maine. ProsperityME empowers, through education and counseling, members of refugee and immigrant communities to invest in themselves to build financial stability, careers, businesses and wealth. ProsperityME offers financial education services including financial literacy courses, one-on-one financial counseling and coaching. We also provide support for higher education, security deposit assistance for housing, small business counseling, and workforce development through partnerships with local businesses. ProsperityME’s services are open to all refugees, immigrants, asylees, and other individuals with low-income in Greater Portland and Lewiston/Auburn, Maine.
Duties & Responsibilities:

The Housing Case Manager takes queries for rental assistance, assesses eligibility including income qualification, provides education and outreach on the emergency rental assistance program and advises clients with options.

Schedules and conducts telephone and face-to-face interviews with program applicants.

Performs initial client evaluations and develops customized development plans and follow-up.

Processes valid requests for emergency rental assistance according to program requirements.

Evaluates living conditions and recommends improvement for health and safety of tenants.

Communicates with Landlords on behalf of clients on housing needs.

Ensures that all records and work papers are adequately documented.

Acts as liaison between various partners and manages client referrals as needed.

Promotes ProsperityME’s programs and services through community outreach.

Provides cultural brokerage as needed.

Other Duties as assigned by the Director of Housing Services.
Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree preferred. Social Services or related field preferred.

Thorough understanding of Housing programs required.

Experience working with minorities, immigrant and refugee communities preferred.

Must be proficient in English and either Arabic, Portuguese, Somali or French.

Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be a good public speaker.

Frequent in state travel required.
