Small Business Coordinator

 

Job Description

Founded in 2008, ProsperityME is a growing 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Portland, Maine.

ProsperityME empowers, through education and counseling, members of refugee and immigrant communities to invest in themselves to build financial stability, careers, businesses and wealth.

ProsperityME offers financial education services including financial literacy courses, one-on-one financial counseling and coaching. We also provide support for higher education, security deposit assistance for housing, small business counseling, and workforce development through partnerships with local businesses. ProsperityME’s services are open to all refugees, immigrants, asylees, and other individuals with low-income in Greater Portland and Lewiston/Auburn, Maine.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of a project identifying the challenges and obstacles that immigrant small businesses experience in Lewiston/Auburn.

  • Perform initial evaluations of client needs and develop customized development plans.

  • Identify barriers to success supported by structural racism in existing start-up assistance programs and help small business assistance programs to better respond to the real needs of immigrant small businesses.

  • Provide individuals with the resources they need to reach personal goals.

  • Promote ProsperityME’s programs and services through community outreach.

  • Create curriculum and prepare lesson plans to promote longer-term planning thereby helping immigrant small businesses to be more resilient.

  • Interpret data and provide ongoing reports.

  • Other Duties as assigned by the Executive Director

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. BA in Business, Finance or related field preferred.

  • Thorough understanding of small business creation required.

  • Experience working with minorities, immigrant and refugee communities preferred.

  • Must be proficient in English and one other language.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to present course material in a professional manner using adult education principles.

  • May require occasional travel in state and out of state for trainings and certifications and business needs.

  • Must be willing to complete ProsperityME’s Train the Trainer program.

  • Schedule classes and provide instruction for ProsperityME courses and workshops

  • Maintain a student database and attendance records and collect course surveys and

    demographic information at the beginning and end of every course.

  • Promote ProsperityME’s programs and services through community outreach.

  • Deliver specific workshops and cultural orientations to New Mainers.

  • Prepare lesson plans, revise curriculum according to the needs of the organization.

  • Interpret data and provide ongoing reports.

  • Administer and manage classes using the online student portal.

     

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. BA in Finance or related field preferred.

  • Must be willing to complete ProsperityME’s Train the Trainer program.

  • Thorough understanding of personal finance knowledge required.

  • Experience working with minorities, immigrant and refugee communities preferred.

  • Must be proficient in English and one other language.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to present course material in a

    professional manner using adult education principles.

  • Requires travel out of state for trainings and financial capability certifications on occasion.

  • Maine Driver’s License and access to vehicle required; must be willing to travel to Portland,

    Lewiston and surrounding areas.

  • Must be proficient with Excel (or similar cloud-based data management software)
